The first coupé-cabriolet in the GT segment, the Mercedes SL R230 series is now an iconic car whose collector prices are rising. In July 2001 the SL 500 was presented and subsequently various other engines were introduced such as the 2002 SL 350 (6-cylinder 245hp) or the 2003 SL 600 (V12 biturbo 612hp). There was no shortage of AMG-branded versions: the SL55, the SL63 and SL65. A first restyling of the range was introduced in 2006 and a second in 2008, with the characteristic "boomerang" headlights. The R230 gave way in 2012 to the new generation R231.
